SOLD – Longcase Clock
A fine late 18th century mahogany longcase clock by Emanuel Burton, Kendal circa 1770.
Description
Having a brass dial with moon phase, Roman numerals and date aperture with a hour striking 8 day movement and pull-repeat in original mahogany case, attributed to Gillows of Lancaster.
The dentil carved and shell inlaid swan-neck hood with arched glazed door, and fluted columns above a trunk with shaped door flanked by fluted columns with shell inlay, on ogee bracket feet.
Emanuel Burton II (1732-1809) noted Kendal clockmaker. The Burton family worked from premises in Finkle Street. Son of Emanuel and father of Emanuel III, Jonathon and James a Whitehaven watchmaker.
