Emanuel Burton, Kendal – SOLD

A small late 18th century mahogany longcase clock circa 1770

 

Description

The rectangular brass engraved dial with 30 hour movement by Emanuel Burton, Kendal in original mahogany case attributed to Gillows of Lancaster. The swan-neck hood with glazed door and columns above a trunk with shaped door flanked by fluted columns on bracket feet

Emanuel Burton II (1732-1809) noted Kendal clockmaker. The Burton family worked from premises in Finkle Street. Son of Emanuel and father of Emanuel III, Jonathon and  James a Whitehaven watchmaker.  Literature: page 36 Westmorland Clocks and Clockmakers by Brian Loomes
