A fine pair late George II period mahogany concertina action Card Tables circa 1760

Description

Each with serpentine moulded twin-flap enclosing original green baize-lined playing surface above a serpentine frieze on cabriole legs carved with foliage on scroll feet, hinge stamped H.TIBATS

The overall form corresponds to a pair of tables by Thomas Chippendale supplied in 1759  to Dumfries House and possibly by Alexander Peter the noted Edinburgh cabinet-maker and associate of Chippendale. Records dated 1760 list items supplied by Peter to Earl of Dumfries.
