Samuel Kitson was a fine arts sculptor active in the United States from about 1876-1906. He had studios in New York & Boston. He was born in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, studying in Rome from 1870 to 73, when he received two gold awards. He established a studio in Italy and relocated to New York in 1878, working alongside his brother’s firm, Ellin & Kitson Artitectural Sculptors, who carried out work for churches, commercial buildings and fine residences.

Kitson received many private commissions including statuary for Vanderbilt House, Longfellow House and the Sacred Heart Blesses Sacrement Catholic Church, New York. He also completed many portrait statues of catholic bishops.
