Of serpentine outline with railed basket above a fluted pierced fret with tapered standards surmounted by urn-shaped finials.
With a letter of provenance from Edward A. Nowell, dealer in antiques, Wells dated 1966.
“As far as I know, the fire-grate along with another was purchased from J.A.S.A. Lewis & Son and both came from secondary rooms at Aspley House, when surplus furniture and fittings were sold before the house was converted to a museum in 1935”
Aspley House, home of First Duke of Wellington and his descendeants was originally designed and built by Robert Adam between 1771 and 1778 for Baron Aspley.
